Exploring Drug and Alcohol Treatment
from a Trauma-Informed Approach
Addiction - it's not what you think!
In this webinar Sarah will provide an overview of Drug and Alcohol Treatment while exploring the gains the sector has made and highlighting the areas still needing improvement.
Sarah is passionate about reframing the way we understand Drug and Alcohol use – shifting from seeing Addiction as the “problem” to seeing Addiction as a “symptom.” She will talk through the danger of fusing with “abstinence” as a treatment goal and offer alternative perspectives in understanding and working with this client group.
It is vital to understand Addiction in the context of trauma, how they interrelate and where we can find the flexibility to work in this space concurrently, safely and realistically. Sarah will highlight these themes and build on the importance of using Love and Compassion when working with this client group.
Sarah will build on your current skills to increase your knowledge, understanding and confidence when working with clients presenting with Drug and/or Alcohol concerns. You will walk away with strategies that can be implemented immediately that are anchored in compassion for the unique challenges this population present with.
