Brainspotting Explained - Webinar
Brainspotting™ is a neuroscience-informed, mind & body treatment which works with the brain’s natural healing mechanisms, using specific eye positions and focused mindfulness. Brainspotting gains direct access to the sub-cortical part of the brain to locate, focus, process and release a wide range of emotional and bodily-based conditions of trauma.
Brainspotting is highly relational, brain/body inclusive modality, which frees the therapist from the constraints of protocol, questionnaire or script driven modalities, thus allowing a deeper relational connection and attunement with their client. Brainspotting acknowledges the client as the expert on their own healing process, and the therapist as the empathic, supportive witness on that journey. Brainspotting makes use of this natural phenomenon through its use of relevant eye positions.
Where you look affects how you feel.
David Grand ~ Developer of Brainspotting
Trauma is held in the brain and the body, so we have to be able to access both for full resolution of the trauma event to occur. Brainspotting does that. In Brainspotting, the client, (or the client and
therapist together), find an eye position that correlates to the unprocessed “trauma event” in the brain/body and as this eye position is held by the client, it naturally and quickly opens the client’s access to their brain’s self-healing capacity which then begins to process any unprocessed fragments of the trauma
event.
Brainspotting can be beautifully integrated into a clinicians practice whether that be CBT, EMDR, IFS, SE, Narrative, Sandtray therapy and more.
