Do I need a referral to see a psychologist at The Hummingbird Centre Newcastle West?

No, you don’t need a referral to make an appointment. However, if you do have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Can I use Medicare to help cover the cost?

Yes. If you have a valid referral under a Mental Health Care Plan or an Eating Disorder Management Plan (EDMP) from your GP, you can access Medicare rebates.

  • With a Mental Health Care Plan, you may be eligible for up to 10 rebated sessions each year.
  • With an Eating Disorder Management Plan, eligible clients may access up to 40 rebated sessions per year under Medicare.

Yes. We work with individuals of all ages and support families in navigating a wide range of mental health, emotional, and behavioural concerns.
