July 7 @ 4:00 pm – July 14 @ 6:30 pm
Learn how to assess PTSD accurately using the gold standard tool, the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5), in our upcoming training webinar. Ideal for clinicians seeking to refine their diagnostic and treatment-planning skills.
As a clinician, understanding the nuanced aspects of PTSD is essential for effective treatment. Do you know how to:
- Accurately assess the nuanced aspects of each client’s PTSD symptoms?
- Document and justify your initial diagnosis?
- Treat the client’s most prominent symptoms of PTSD?
- Reassess and document progress later in treatment?
The Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5) is the gold standard in PTSD assessment. Designed for clinicians and clinical researchers with a working knowledge of PTSD, the entire interview takes 45-60 minutes and provides a comprehensive understanding of the client’s symptoms.
The CAPS-5 is a 30-item structured interview used to:
- Make a current (past month) diagnosis of PTSD
- Make a lifetime diagnosis of PTSD
- Assess PTSD symptoms over the past week
This diagnostic tool assesses the 20 DSM-5 PTSD symptoms and targets:
- The onset and duration of symptoms
- Subjective distress
- The impact of symptoms on social and occupational functioning
- Improvement in symptoms since a previous CAPS administration
- Overall PTSD severity and specifications for the dissociative subtype (depersonalisation and derealisation)
The Life Events Checklist for DSM-5 (LEC-5) is recommended in addition to the CAPS-5. During this training, you’ll learn how to administer the CAPS-5 and incorporate this information into treatment planning and evaluation. Detailed explanations of the nuances in administering and interpreting this diagnostic tool, along with a demonstration, will also be provided.
Trainer: Dr Suzy Matthijssen PhD, a Clinical Psychologist and supervisor with extensive experience in trauma treatment, will guide you through the training and ensure you develop a deep understanding of the CAPS-5.
Who Should Attend: This training is perfect for clinicians and researchers who want to improve their PTSD assessment skills and integrate the CAPS-5 into their practice.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
- Describe what a single index trauma is and how it is used as the basis of symptom inquiry
- Differentiate between PTSD and CPTSD diagnostics
- Assess for symptoms in Cluster B
- Assess for symptoms in Cluster C
- Assess for symptoms in Cluster D
- Assess for symptoms in Cluster E
- Describe features of the LEC-5 and when to use it
